That Figures...

Evan went in for his sleep study last night. He has sleep apnea. My wonderful husband volunteered to take him. OK, so I am using the word "volunteered" loosely. I had to do a decent amount of begging and a small amount of crying to convince him, but nevertheless he did it. He called me at one point to tell me that Evan had been perfect and that he was about ready to fall asleep. I was relieved that things had gone well, but found myself a little annoyed.

Now, don't get me wrong. I am glad that he did so well. But why is it that I take him to the dentist to get a simple teeth cleaning and he acts like Armageddon has begun, and his dad takes him to the hospital where they do this to him....

and he is "perfect." Seriously? I mean, come on. Are you kidding me?? Jason said they had to scrub the little spots on his head and stick all this gunk and tape all over him and NOT ONE TEAR??? I know. I am a horrible person for saying these things. But...I have been dragging kids to doctors and therapists and dentists and trying to stay calm while they throw conniptions and I convince Jason to do it this one time and nothing?!?! That figures. *sigh* I will never be able to play the sympathy card now.

So anyways....Evan did great and we just have to sit around and wait for the results now. I seem to have passed down a rather annoying gene to my baby boy. If you look at the picture close enough you can see where he is having an allergic reaction to the tape they used all over him. He's all red and puffy and his skin is all dried out.

It is getting better now. They told us it should go away in a day or two. If it doesn't, I am making Jason take him to the pediatrician!!

Glad he did well, sort of. It seems like they always do better when mom is not there. My kids are angels for their dad. Such is life I guess. It must be one of Murphy's laws.

Actually, it is great he did so well. Now you are perfectly entitled to insist that your husband do the dentist visits. It is true (and my pediatric dentist corroborates this) that they do better with their dads at these types of things.

LOL! I know what you mean. Hubsters seem to get all the luck sometimes.

I hope the test was useful. Poor baby. He was a real trooper.

That is crazy - I can't believe he wasn't frightened to death and he didn't even cry?? I am with you - if it had been me there, the child would have thrown a fit and it never would have gone as easily as it did for your husband. What's up with that? I hope they figure out the problem - poor little guy. Have a good day, Valarie. See you soon. Kellan

I'm glad to hear it went well, but I know how you feel. Now your husband will think taking the kids to appointments and procedures is no big deal and won't understand why you make such a big deal about it. Did they sedate Evan? Maybe it was the drugs that calmed him down and not the fact that it was daddy that took him? I'm glad it went well though, and I hope you get the results soon. Poor little guy. :( Hope you have a wonderful weekend!! :)

omg... I can't believe he was so strong through that. Maybe he had the brave face on for dad, they can't do that face for their moms. WE are their brave ones.

Nope, there was no sedation involved.

I hate how dad's don't seem to get the full range of the bahavior from the kids. grrrrrr! I'm positive they save it for those of us they see most often, because they know where they stand with us and now we'll love them anyway. I used to be a nanny and I saw the "lovely" behavior far more than the dad did

It's good he did so well with the test, so you don't need to go back to repeat it.
I agree with suburbancorrespondent, Dad should now be in charge of all situations which could cause the children stress;)
We've been through two sleep studies with our kids. They both thought it was fun! The technicians who worked with them were really cute with them, and they were able to bring a movie to watch while they were being "wired". One child came back positive for OSA, and after a tonsillectomy became a totally different child. (It's amazing what getting some good sleep will do for a child's disposition.)
